Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D
The most common of these is Original Medicare, or Parts A and B. These plans are offered through the federal government and cover hospital and medical care. You are also able to add Part D prescription drug coverage to your Original Medicare coverage.
If you find that Original Medicare alone does not cover all of your healthcare needs, you can also apply for a Part C plan. Part C, or Medicare Advantage, adds dental, vision, hearing, and other benefits to your Original coverage.
Medigap and Medicare Supplements
Medigap and Medicare supplements cover the additional costs of Original Medicare. Under Original Medicare alone, you may have to pay out-of-pocket for certain healthcare costs. A Medigap plan takes away this stress.
Medicare supplements do not provide additional benefits like Medicare Advantage. They do, however, cover costs that may not be covered by Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance, or deductibles.
